SANDAKAN: Sandakan Yacht Club (SYC) is all set to stage the Sandakan Regatta/ Sandakan River Race/ Sabah Closed, the final event of this year's Sabah sailing calendar, this weekend.
This is the second major regatta to be held in Sandakan after the prestigious Borneo Interport Regatta last month.
SYC commodore Richard Lim said the Sandakan River Race, which is a marathon race on Friday, Nov 18, is the curtain raiser of the event and the Sandakan Regatta on Nov 19 and 20.
Sixty sailors from SYC, Sabah Sailing Association (SAILA), Kinabalu Yacht Club, Tawau Yacht Club and Navy Yacht Club Kota Kinabalu will be competing in the annual event held in the sea fronting SYC at Jalan Buli Sim Sim, Lim said.
“This event which is organized with the collaboration of SAILA and support from Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry, incorporates the Sabah Closed which is endorsed by Sabah Sailing Association as a ranking event for Sabah State Sailors,” Lim added.
We hope the State Government will continue to support of our efforts to help promote sailing, which is a healthy activity for the whole family to participate in and enjoy, Lim said.
