SANDAKAN: The 2016 Sandakan Closed Tennis Tournament gets underway with the Women’s event to be played at the Sandakan District Tennis Association (SDTA) courts this weekend.

SDTA president Fernando D. Rulloda said the Women’s Doubles will kick start the annual tournament at the SDTA clubhouse from May 6 and 8.

The Men’s Singles and Doubles, Men’s Veteran Singles and Doubles will be held the next weekend from May 13 to 15 at the same venue, Fernando said.

“Due to court renovation and hot weather, all games will start at 5 pm,” he continued.

The organizing committee is using this tournament to select players to represent Sandakan in the 30th Inter-Affiliate Tennis Championship which is hosted by Sandakan this May 28 to 30 May, Fernando said.

"The event is open to players residing in Sandakan, Kinabatangan and Beluran. The Men’s Veteran Singles and Veteran Doubles are for players aged above 45 or born in/ before 1971. ," he added.

Registration deadline for the Men’s events has been extended until next Wednesday, May 11.  Those who wish to register can contact Herman Abdullah (012 815 9661) or Donald Lee (012 818 8150), Fernando said.
