SCC DONATED 2 NEW DIALYSIS MACHINES TO THE SANDAKAN DUCHESS OF KENT HOSPITAL

SANDAKAN: Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) donated two new dialysis machines worth RM 93,280 to the Duchess of Kent Hospital Hemodialysis Unit.

The dialysis machines were handed over by SCC chairman Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin to Duchess of Kent Hospital (DOK) director Dr Francis Paul in a brief ceremony held at the Hemodialysis Unit on Friday.

Also present at the programme were SCC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Vincent Pung, SCC Chief Operating Officer Lee Shu Men, senior SCC officers, doctors and DOK staff.

“This donation is made possible through the “Giving Back” philosophy of SCC which it started in 2005 by setting aside 5% of its profits before tax for its Corporate Social Responsibility programme (CSR),” Linda said.

Linda said the programme covers the whole of Sabah and has four main targets – 1) children, especially in the rural areas, 2) abused women (single mothers), 3) the handicapped and 4) facilities for the common good of the community, like the critical medical equipment in DOK.

As at August 2015, the SCC CSR programme has financed 104 projects which  include rural hostels (26), orphanages (9), school infrastructure (13), rural libraries (2), educational halls (12) and restoration of school buildings (13), she continued.

“For the community, SCC has provided 5 units of dialysis machines, urgent medical equipment for four hospitals, seven water gravity projects and two hanging bridges, among others. The total amount committed is more than RM 19 million,” Linda who is also Batu Sapi Member of Parliament, said.

Linda added she is in full support of these noble initiatives by SCC, which is a state government agency under the purview of the Sabah Finance Ministry. It is very much in line with the government’s efforts to uplift the economic status of the people especially those in the rural areas.

Meanwhile DOK director Dr Francis Paul, with the two new dialysis machines donated by SCC, the DOK Hemodialysis Unit now has fifteen machines.

“We currently have 94 patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment at the DOK Hemodialysis Unit with another eight on the waiting list,” Francis said.

The DOK Hemodialysis Unit moved to its current location situated across the road from the Specialists’ Clinic in 2013 and has space to accommodate 27 dialysis machines, Francis said.
