KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP
wants the Home Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to come clean
over the disappearance of three men from Semporna who were allegedly abducted
last September 22 while on the way home.
They want to know whether the trio
were ‘taken away’ by the police or other security forces as till today the
police have kept mum over the missing persons.
In a joint press statement by Member
Parliament for Kota
Kinabalu, Jimmy Wong, Member Parliament for Sandakan
Stephen Wong and State Assemblyperson for Sri Tanjong (Sabah) Chan Foong Hin in
Parliament on Wednesday, they urged Zahid to tell the truth.
“We believe that this three persons
as well as their immediate family members should know the case against them,
stand trial and, if found guilty, be imprisoned, the opposition trio charged.
“Even though they may be terrorist
suspects, it is their right to get a clear answer of what was actually going
on. The wives are being left in the dark. The authorities should clarify the
matter to the wives as they have their children to tend to amidst not knowing
what had happened”.
They also want the Home Affairs
Minister to answer if the men are being detained or imprisoned without trial
under Prevention of Crime Act and if they were taken away by a special task
force.
They also want Zahid to respond as to
whether the three men had committed any crime or what is it they have done to
be detained without trial, and if the detention is related to the measures
taken to combat security threats in the EssZone
Mohammad bin
Sarail, 50, a pirate taxi operator, Zulfikar bin Omar, 40, a fisherman and
Mohammad bin Jobail, 34, a poultry seller were last seen at Mile 4, Apas
Road on September 22, while on the way back to Semporna from Tawau.
According to a news report, a witness
by the name of Wong saw a red Proton Wira stopped by seven heavily armed men
who were in three double-cab vehicles.
The window of the Proton Wira was
broken and the passengers had their heads covered in hoods and their hands and
feet bound before before being driven away.
Chan said the OCPD of Tawau, ACP
Awang Besar Dullah refused to comment when I asked him for more details on the
case, after the news report appeared.
Chan also said he conducted a press
conference in Tawau with the wives of Mohammad Sarail, Kamsiria bte Sarail and
Nuribia bte Lebensuh, 20, the wife of Zulfikar, appealing for information on
the whereabouts of their husbands.
Both Kamsiria and Nuribia had also
made police reports immediately after the Proton Wira which the men were
traveling in, was found by the roadside at Mile 4, Apas Road, the same
day.
